Based on the fluorescence lifetime of a voltage-sensitive dye, Becker & Hickl FLIM systems record absolute values of membrane potentials in cells. The data shown below were recorded by a dual-channel SPC-150NX FLIM System on a Zeiss LSM 980 laser scanning microscope. Due to its extraordinarily high time resolution and timing stability, the system achieves an accuracy of the membrane voltage on the order of a few mV.
